Data policy

EpicBench is an independent editorial site published from Ireland. It reads Google Play, plays the games it writes about and publishes the notes; it does not run accounts, shops or mailing lists. This page sets out, plainly, what happens to data when you open one of these pages.

Who is responsible

The editorial desk behind epicbench.com is the controller for the little data this site touches, within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Written enquiries reach us at desk@epicbench.com.

What the site does not do

• There is no form anywhere on this site — no sign-up, no feedback box, no search field. Nothing on a page can send us anything.
• There are no accounts, no profiles and no personalisation.
• There are no browser notifications, and permission for them is never requested.
• There is no analytics tool of ours, no advertising network and no third-party tracker embedded in these pages.
• Nothing is sold here, so there is no billing data of any kind.

What happens when a page loads

Two parties see a request before you see a page: the hosting provider that stores the files, and Cloudflare, which delivers them as a content delivery network. Both process technical request data on our behalf — IP address, the address of the page requested, the referring address if there is one, browser and device type, the approximate country the request came from, and timing figures about how fast the page rendered.

Cloudflare also injects its own small performance script into pages served through it. That script reports loading measurements and does not read or set cookies. We cannot switch it off from inside the page code, so it is named here rather than left out.

The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in delivering a site that stays up, loads quickly and resists abuse, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Where data reaches a provider outside the European Economic Area, it travels under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

If you write to us

An e-mail sent to the desk carries whatever you put in it: your address, your name if you sign it, and the content of the message. We use it to answer you and for nothing else, on the basis of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — our interest, and yours, in a reply. Correspondence is kept while the matter is live and for a reasonable period afterwards in case it is raised again, then deleted. Messages are never used to build a list and never passed to anyone for marketing.

Storage in your browser

This site sets no cookies of its own. When you answer the notice at the bottom of the page, the answer is written to your browser’s session storage under a single key, eb.cookie.seen, so the notice does not reappear on every page you open. It disappears when you close the tab, it never leaves your device, and it is not readable by us. Full detail sits in the cookie note.

How long anything is kept

Server and CDN logs are short-lived and retained by those providers for their own security and diagnostic purposes, typically for days rather than months. We do not build our own archive of visitor data, because we do not collect one.

Your rights

• Access to the personal data concerning you, and a copy of it.
• Rectification of anything inaccurate, and erasure where the law allows it.
• Restriction of processing, and objection to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Portability, where the processing is automated and based on consent or contract.
• A complaint to the supervisory authority.

The Irish supervisory authority is the Data Protection Commission (DPC), 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28 — www.dataprotection.ie. You may also complain to the authority where you live or work.

Age

These pages are written for a general adult readership and hold nothing aimed at children. In Ireland the age at which a person can consent to the processing of their data in relation to information society services is 16.

Security and changes

Pages are served over HTTPS and the site holds no database of readers to protect. If this policy changes — because the site itself changes — the date below changes with it, and the previous position is not quietly overwritten.
